Theatrical Inc., known in the theatre community for the high standard of its productions, is back at it with Dogfight at Chapel Off Chapel from November 9th to 26th.

Based on the lesser-known 1991 film with the same title, Dogfight follows the story of a group of Marines who are about to deploy in 1963. A "dogfight" brings Rose and Eddie together, leading to a series of events that explore themes of empathy, love, heroism, and the impact of war.

Dogfight's music and lyrics are from the duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who later gained fame for their work on famous musicals such as Dear Evan Hansen and The Greatest Showman. This gives Dogfight a solid fan base for its music alone.

Antoinette Davis delivers a phenomenal performance as the sweet yet insecure lead, Rose. Davis skillfully guides the audience through amusing and awkward moments in “Nothing Short of Wonderful”. She then delivers a heart-wrenching performance in “Pretty Funny”, bringing tears to her eyes as she makes this iconic act one closer truly her own.

In the challenging role of Eddie Birdlace, Daniel Nieborski delivers a formidable performance, showcasing his impressive vocal and emotional range. His gut-wrenching rendition of "Come Back" in the show's final moments is incredibly moving.

From the first big song, the ensemble of marines in "Some Kinda Time" captivates the audience with their exquisite harmonies and perfectly synchronised choreography that complements the characters.

The duet "Dogfight" is a highlight, showcasing a brilliant contrast in the experiences of the two characters, Marcy (played by Madeline Pratt) and Rose. The vocal and character choices made by Pratt and Davis, along with the costume design by Karen Spencer, accentuate the stark differences in their backgrounds.

Yvonne Jin and Bianca Pardo have created an innovative set design for Chapel Off Chapel, effectively utilising the space by incorporating additional set pieces into the scenery.

When Davis and Nieborski stand atop the main set piece and are illuminated flawlessly by Jason Bovaird's lighting design, it creates a breathtaking moment during the performance of "Before It's Over" - perfect for this crucial for both Eddie and Rose.

Once again, Theatrical Inc. has delivered a stunning show that highlights the extensive talent of Melbourne's musical theatre scene. Don't miss out on Dogfight, which is running until November 26th. Get your tickets now before it’s over.

Please note: There are some strong themes addressed during the show. Also, one scene in the show has a period of flashing lights, loud noises, and increased emotional tension.
